(Paid, updated 6/26/09) The communications intern is responsible for assisting with communications and public relations efforts for the Health Forum and its programs. Intern will also help to research and develop a national communications network. This is a great hands-on opportunity to learn non-profit public relations and communications strategies and planning.
Title: Communications Intern
Hours: 10-15 hours per week, for 3 months
Reports to: Communications Manager
Salary: $10.00 per hour; school credit available
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a social media presence, including blog on health;
- Develop and execute public relations campaigns with communications manager;
- Pitch news stories to local and national media;
- Research and develop a nationwide network for communications and public policy advocacy;
- Perform other duties as assigned (photocopying, mailings, administrative work, etc.).
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate at a college or university;
- Currently taking communications, journalism or public relations courses;
- Experience or desire to work/learn in a team-based environment;
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications in a Windows environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong journalism writing skills, understanding of public relations.
- Interest and passion about underserved populations and issues.
- Experience, knowledge, or desire to learn about Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and public health.
