Over the past two decades, momentum has grown to address the health needs of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. In 1986, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) was formed to address health disparities in Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and has since worked with community advocates, public health leaders and policymakers to generate policy and systems changes that benefit our communities at the national, state and local levels.
As part of an ambitious framework for change in policies, in systems, and in the fundamental ways that we address health for our communities, APIAHF policy work focuses on: expanding access to health care; improving the quality of health care through cultural competency, language access and diverse workforce; and increasing research and improving data collection about the health issues faced by our communities.
APIAHF will seek to effect these policy changes through policy and data analyses, coalition building and engaging in legislative, administrative, private sector and media advocacy.
This work is only possible through the collective efforts of our community-based organizations, community leaders, providers and researchers, minority and immigrant health advocates, and other health care and public health advocates. We welcome you to join our network to advance a movement for optimal health and well-being of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.
